Karl was born in Australia in 1992 and emigrated to the UK at age 7. During his time there, he developed a passion for outdoor activities and rugby. At 18, Karl returned to Australia with the goal of joining the Australian Army.
After applying in 2010, Karl was accepted into basic training in November 2011. He then specialized as a Combat Engineer, completing his initial employment training by mid-2012. Karl was subsequently posted to the 1st Combat Engineer Regiment (1 CER) in Darwin, Northern Territory.
In 2016, after four years at 1 CER, Karl was selected to join the Special Operations Engineer Regiment (SOER). Following a rigorous 12-month reinforcement cycle, he became a fully qualified member, working alongside the 2nd Commando Regiment as a counter IED, CBRNE, and explosives specialist.
Karl later joined a small SOER detachment supporting the Special Air Service Regiment (SASR), Australia’s premier special forces unit. He spent the remainder of his career attached to SASR, conducting Special Recovery Operations and Counter-Terrorism training.
In 2019, Karl deployed to Iraq with the Special Operations Task Group, collaborating with coalition partners in the ongoing fight against ISIS. In 2022, he transitioned to a reserve position and joined the Western Australian Police Force. After serving as a front-line police officer for just over a year, Karl decided to pursue a different career path.
In 2024, Karl emigrated to Austin, Texas with his wife and dog.
